The results of the 2005 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction contest has been announced.

For those who are not familiar with this, it is contest to write the worst opening line for a novel. It is named after a Victorian novelist, Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton, who used the immortal line shown in the subject to open one of his novels.

I ran across an interesting OP/ED piece in the Mpls. Star Tribune (Strib) today (http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/5160241.html). And people in this country wonder why the US is losing ground in the global economy. I am sure that it is too much to hope that people will read, much less heed, what this middle school math teacher has to say.

It is things like this and talking to desfontaines that make me believe that this country is doomed in the long run. That, of course, assumes that we survive the next four years.

Yes, I have finally broken down and signed up for LJ. :-)

Now, you shouldn't expect to see me detailing all of the intimate details of my life. I mainly joined to be able to read what my friends are saying in secret. (shhh!) What you can expect to see here the most, are things that come across my path that I find interesting, bizarre, etc.
