Interesting Portrait
Those of you who do not read laurence_skr's journal may find this interesting. Edit: As it is locked, I am posting the picture here. And in case you're wondering, that is not a portrait of me but of St Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. Current Mood: curious |

It was a dark and stormy night
The results of the 2005 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction contest has been announced. For those who are not familiar with this, it is contest to write the worst opening line for a novel. It is named after a Victorian novelist, Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton, who used the immortal line shown in the subject to open one of his novels. |

Start Your Own Mammography Business!
I saw this on the Tonight Show last night and just had to share it. Hey, at least it didn't sell, unlike the piece of toast that supposedly has Runaway Bride Jennifer Wilbank's face on it ($15,400). |

I Don't Like Mondays
So you may ask, "Why don't you like Mondays?" Well besides the obvious reasons, this past Monday started with my laptop deciding to crash! So I have spent the last several days: 1) Discovering that the extended warranty that I was sure I had purchased did not indeed exist.
2) Tracking down the problem and finally determining that the hard drive was bad.
3) Trying to resurrect said hard drive (where is Lazurus when you need him) and discovering after using several different programs and even more hours that it was toast.
4) Trying to recover as much information as possible from the aforementioned piece of toast. I am not sure how many of those recovered files may still be corrupted (thankfully most of them had been backed up).
5) Buying a new hard drive that I cannot afford (laptop hard drives are much more expensive than ones for desktops).
6) Reinstalling all of my software (a process that is by no means anywhere near finished). And that is where my week disappeared to and why I have not been seen outside of work. PS - I can't even blame this problem on Micro$haft. Current Mood: aggravatedCurrent Music: The Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays |

Who Needs Math?
I ran across an interesting OP/ED piece in the Mpls. Star Tribune (Strib) today ( http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/5160241.html). And people in this country wonder why the US is losing ground in the global economy. I am sure that it is too much to hope that people will read, much less heed, what this middle school math teacher has to say. It is things like this and talking to desfontaines that make me believe that this country is doomed in the long run. That, of course, assumes that we survive the next four years. |

DanceMaster E is in the house!
Yes, I have finally broken down and signed up for LJ. :-) Now, you shouldn't expect to see me detailing all of the intimate details of my life. I mainly joined to be able to read what my friends are saying in secret. (shhh!) What you can expect to see here the most, are things that come across my path that I find interesting, bizarre, etc. |
